In 1999, actor Ben Affleck recorded an audio commentary track for the Criterion Collection DVD release of the 1998 Michael Bay film Armageddon, in which he co-starred with Bruce Willis. This commentary is, from the perspective of 25 years later, nearly universally considered one of the best of the form.
In the years since the decline of the DVD as a video format, and with it, the loss of “extras” like these audio commentaries by cast and crew, these accessible, entertaining artifacts are fondly recalled by a generation of movie aficionados as a touchstone of their film educations. Though certainly not all audio commentary of the era was equally enjoyable, this particular commentary acts as a surrogate for the casual, freewheeling qualities of the best of them.
Selected remarks from Affleck's full commentary with annotations are included in this pamphlet. Buy one for yourself, and buy one to leave in a bus station or laundromat. Shipped USPS First Class.
